Sunshine Mills is recalling more dog food. In August, they recalled their Nature’s Menu Super Premium Dog Food with Chicken and Quail for possible salmonella contamination. The three pound bags of food manufactured in Georgia were distributed across the US and can be identified with UPC codes 7015514363 and 7015514365. Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever, and vomiting in pets. People that handle the food can also become infected. Sick pets can also infect other pets who didn’t necessarily consume the food.
Now just a few weeks later, Sunshine Mills is recalling three different brands of pet food for possible aflatoxin contamination. Certain lots of Family Pet, Heartland Farms, and Paws Happy Life brands manufactured in Louisiana have tested positive for the mold by-product. Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring mold by-product from the growth of Aspergillus flavus and can be harmful to pets if consumed in significant quantities. Symptoms in pets include sluggishness or lethargy combined with a reluctance to eat, vomiting, yellowish tint to the eyes or gums, and diarrhea. If you pet has eaten the food and is showing any symptoms, they should be seen by a veterinarian.
Consumers who have purchased any of the listed dog foods from the recalled lots should discontinue use of the product and may return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers may contact Sunshine Mills, Inc. customer service at (800) 705-2111 from 7AM to 4PM Central Time, Monday through Friday, or by email at customer.service@sunshinemills.com for additional information.
